Nile Explorer Bus Exhibits at the 2022 National HIV/AIDS Symposium

Kampala, UGANDA – The Nile Explorer Bus, powered by the U.S. Mission Uganda, and implemented by Open Space Center, had a chance to exhibit at the National HIV/AIDS Symposium organized by the Uganda AIDS Commission at the Makerere University Business School Playgrounds.

The event that took place under the theme: “Ending Inequalities Among Adolescent Girls, Young Women, and Boys” not only featured a state of art exhibition, but in doing so, provided a platform for sharing evidence from latest research studies for improved HIV programming and showcasing the best practices in coordination and delivery of HIV/AIDS services.

The Nile Explorer showcased its programming and method of delivery of accurate health information on HIV/AIDS to adolescents and young adults in underserved schools allover the country, visited by the bus so far, and the health data, research, and findings conducted by the bus to inform its areas of focus.

The Guest of Honor at the event was Rt. Hon Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, Robinah Nabbanja. The U.S. Ambassador to Uganda, Natalie Brown, also visited the bus, where she and other officials had a chance to try out the tools used to deliver key health information through fun-learning experiences in virtual reality.

Barbra Kemigisa – who is not only a 2018 Mandela Washington YALI Fellowship Alumna, but also an HIV Activist and a young woman living positively – visited the Nile Explorer booth, where she was amazed by the work that the bus is doing, especially in the rural underserved schools and areas, a topic very close to her heart.

“I was looking at the Nile Explorer Bus and I felt this would be a big opportunity for our young people to have that exposure and see something new. The fact that it goes outside the city means that there are people out there doing a lot to contribute towards the same goal. We are not just looking at our stories, we are looking at stories from around the world, and how people are using technology to change it,” Barbra narrated.
