Unlocking the Potential of Education: Celebrating the International Day of Education 2023 and Supporting Underserved Communities
January 24, 2023The Power of STEM: How Providing a Library of Books Can Change Underserved Schools
February 7, 2023
As the world moves towards a more technologically advanced future, the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) is becoming increasingly evident.
With that in mind, it’s essential to ensure that students in underserved secondary schools in Uganda have access to the same education opportunities as those in more privileged environments.
Here are some ways that the Nile Explorer Bus engages students in these schools in STEM-related topics:
- We start with the basics: It’s important to start with the basics in order to ensure that students have the right foundation to build upon. On the bus, the students explore simple concepts such as the scientific method, mathematics formulas, and even basic coding concepts.
- We use real-world examples: Incorporating real-world examples and stories into our lesson plans makes the topics more relatable and engaging. The students get to explore projects that can help their local communities, such as engaging in smart agricultural practices.
- We utilize hands-on activities: Incorporating hands-on activities into our trainings makes the topics more engaging. The students build robots, construct bridges, design models, and even use 3D printing technology.
- We provide access to technology: As is seen on the bus, technology can be a powerful tool in engaging students in STEM-related topics. We provide access to computers and other technological resources to give students a hands-on opportunity to explore the internet and its uses for research, connectivity, and personal branding.
- Last but not least, we encourage exploration and experimentation: We encourage students to explore and experiment with the topics and allow them to make mistakes and learn from them in order to foster an environment of creativity and innovation.
By taking the necessary steps to engage students in underserved secondary schools in Uganda in STEM-related topics, we can help ensure that they have the same educational opportunities as their peers in more privileged environments.
